The Gardiner Memorial 12th Annual Basketball Classic Tournament: Another Year of Fun, Action and Support In the Bronx Community
On August 19th and 20th, the Bronx community will host the 12th Annual Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament. This has turned into one of the most action-filled street basketball events on the East Coast. Through the game of basketball, the Gardiner family turned their tragedy of losing six family members in an accident on the Bronx River Parkway in 2006 into one of hope and triumph.
One Bronx family turned tragedy into hope and triumph through the simple game of basketball. After losing six family members in a crash on the Bronx River Parkway in 2006, the Gardiners established The Gardiner Foundation.
After their terrible loss, the Gardiners built upon their family’s legacy of helping others by establishing The Gardiner Foundation, a nonprofit organization. This year marks the 12th summer the Gardiner Memorial Basketball Classic tournament has provided educational scholarships, financial and emotional support, and burial assistance to other families who have experienced an unexpected tragic loss.
The Details of the Event
The Gardiner Memorial 12th Annual Basketball Classic Tournament will be held at the St. James Park, located at W. 192nd Street and Jerome Avenue, in Bronx, New York. The games will start at 12 noon. There will be a special guest appearance from Miami Jay Buck. Teams will compete at the following times to win: 
- 12 pm: Bob All Star v. Buffalo
- 2 pm: Kurtflirt v. Lawyertime.com
- 4 pm: Wrecking Crew v. D. Hyman
- 6 pm: SOS All Star v. Body Snatchers
Helping Us Help Others
In the past years, The Gardiner Foundation reached its goals of helping others in similar tragic situations with the help of many donors. They gave away scholarship awards, electronics and other school necessities. Last year, more than 500 backpacks with supplies were handed out. This year promises to be no different. Families will celebrate the memory of their loved ones, while enjoying free live entertainment, free food and drinks throughout the weekend. There will also be scholarship presentations to the most deserving.
Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. (GLK) has been a title sponsor of this annual event since 2009. The money and manpower we donate each year provides various needs supported by The Gardiner Foundation. While the tournament has passed, it is still not too late to contribute. Donors can contribute by mailing a check to The Gardiner Foundation c/o GLK at 111 Broadway, NYC. The money will be used to fund additional scholarships for 2016, including but not limited to, Tru Talk Program, Turkey Give Away, and mentoring trips.
